Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups dried navy beans (or 4 cups canned beans, drained and rinsed)
- 6 slices Beef, diced (optional)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups water or chicken broth
Instructions
Prepare the Beans:
- If using dried beans, rinse and soak them overnight in water. Drain and rinse.
- Cook the beans in a large pot of water until tender, about 1 hour. Drain and set aside. (Skip this step if using canned beans.)
Sauté the Beef and Onion:
- In a large oven-safe pot or Dutch oven, cook the diced Beef over medium heat until crispy. Remove the Beef and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pot.
- Add the chopped onion and sauté for 5 minutes until soft. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
Make the Sauce:
- Add the brown sugar, ketchup, molasses, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper to the pot. Stir well.
- Pour in the water or chicken broth and bring to a simmer.
Combine and Cook:
- Add the cooked (or canned) beans and Beef back into the pot. Stir to coat the beans with the sauce.
- Cover and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens. For a thicker consistency, remove the lid for the last 15 minutes.
