Ingredients
Scale
Mozzarella Sticks
- 12 Mozzarella Cheese Sticks, cut into 4-inch strips
Coating
- 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
- 2 large Eggs, beaten
- 2 tablespoons Milk
- 1 ½ cups Italian Breadcrumbs
- ½ cup Panko Breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano
- Salt and Pepper, to taste
For Frying
- Vegetable Oil, for deep frying
Instructions
- Preheat Your Equipment: Heat vegetable oil in a heavy, deep pot to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prepare for freezing coated sticks.
- Set Up Coating Stations: Arrange three bowls: one with flour, one with a beaten egg mixture combining eggs and milk, and a third with a mixture of Italian breadcrumbs, panko, garlic powder, dried oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Double Coat the Mozzarella Sticks: Dredge each cheese stick first in flour, then dip into the egg mixture, and coat thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture. Repeat the egg dip and breadcrumb coating for an extra crispy, double coating.
- Freeze the Coated Sticks: Place the coated mozzarella sticks onto the prepared parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze them for 30 minutes to ensure they hold their shape during frying.
- Fry to Golden Perfection: Fry the frozen cheese sticks in batches in the hot oil at 350°F for 1 to 2 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Drain and Season: Remove mozzarella sticks from oil and drain on paper towels. While still hot, sprinkle lightly with sea salt for enhanced flavor.
- Serve: Serve immediately with your favorite marinara sauce or dip for a delicious appetizer or snack.
Notes
- Freezing the coated sticks before frying prevents the cheese from melting too quickly and leaking out.
- Use a thermometer to maintain oil temperature for even cooking and crispy texture.
- You can customize the breadcrumb mixture with additional herbs or spices to suit your taste.
- Serve immediately for the best cheesy stretch and crispiness.
- Vegetable oil is ideal for frying due to its high smoke point.
