Ingredients
Scale
Steak and Seasoning
- 2 pounds beef sirloin, trimmed of fat
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 2 teaspoons black pepper
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
Vegetables and Cheese
- 1 large yellow onion, cut in half and thinly sliced into half-moon shapes
- 1 medium jalapeño pepper, sliced
- 1 cup (113 g) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
Bread and Toppings
- 1 package (12-count) Brioche slider rolls
- 1 recipe cowboy butter, melted and divided
Instructions
- Season the Steak: Season the sirloin steak evenly with kosher salt and black pepper. Allow it to rest on the counter at room temperature for about 30 minutes to enhance flavor and ensure even cooking.
- Caramelize the Onions: While the steak is resting, melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a large non-stick skillet over medium-low heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and sauté for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally until they are soft, tender, and have developed a rich golden caramel color. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Prep the Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray and set it aside for assembling the sliders later.
- Cook the Steak: Using the same skillet, melt the remaining tablespoon of butter over medium-high heat. Add the rested steak and sear for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until it reaches your preferred level of doneness.
- Butter Baste the Steak: Tilt the skillet slightly and spoon the melted butter over the steak to baste it, adding more butter if desired to keep it moist and flavorful.
- Rest the Steak: Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest for about 5 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute.
- Slice the Steak: Using a sharp knife, slice the steak thinly against the grain to ensure tenderness.
- Assemble the Sliders: Slice the brioche slider rolls in half. Layer the bottom halves with sliced steak, caramelized onions, jalapeño slices, and shredded cheddar cheese. Drizzle with some of the melted cowboy butter. Top with the other halves of the rolls.
- Bake the Sliders: Place the assembled sliders into the prepared baking dish. Lightly brush the tops with more melted cowboy butter. Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes until the cheese melts and the rolls are slightly toasted.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and serve immediately for warm, flavorful steak sliders with a buttery kick.
Notes
- Letting the steak rest before cooking helps achieve even cooking and keeps the meat juicy.
- Caramelizing the onions slowly over low heat enhances their natural sweetness and depth of flavor.
- Cook the steak to your preferred doneness—medium rare to medium is recommended for tenderness.
- You can adjust the amount of jalapeño to control the heat level in the sliders.
- If desired, double the amount of cowboy butter for extra richness when assembling and serving.
- Brioche slider rolls can be substituted with any soft, buttery bread rolls.
