Description

This Easy Chocolate Mousse recipe is a quick and elegant dessert that combines rich melted chocolate with whipped cream for a light, airy texture. Perfect for any occasion, it requires minimal ingredients and can be prepared in just 20 minutes, then chilled to achieve the perfect creamy consistency.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Mixture

  • 1/2 cup Heavy Cream
  • 6 ounces Chocolate (about 1 cup of chocolate chips)

Whipped Cream

  • 1 cup Heavy Cream
  • 2 Tablespoons Powdered Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Bean Paste or Extract

Garnishes

  • Chocolate Shavings or Chocolate Curls
  • Raspberries
  • Strawberries
  • Candied Nuts

Instructions

  1. Melt the Chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, heat 1/2 cup of heavy cream for about 1 minute until hot but not boiling. Stir in 1 cup of chocolate chips until fully combined, then let the mixture rest for 5 minutes to allow the chocolate to melt completely.
  2. Cool the Mixture: Whisk the chocolate and cream mixture until smooth and glossy. Set aside to cool while preparing the whipped cream.
  3. Whip the Cream: In a medium bowl, pour the remaining 1 cup of cold heavy cream. Using a hand mixer, stand mixer, or whisk, beat the cream until soft peaks form. Reserve 1/2 cup of this whipped cream in a separate bowl, cover, and refrigerate it for topping later. Continue whipping the remaining cream until stiff peaks form.
  4. Fold Everything Together: Gently fold the stiff whipped cream into the cooled chocolate mixture in three batches using a large spatula. Fold lightly to maintain airiness; small streaks of cream are okay. Incorporate the powdered sugar and vanilla extract evenly into the mousse.
  5. Chill and Serve: Spoon the mousse into 4 small ramekins or glasses. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour and up to 4 hours to set. Before serving, top each serving with the reserved whipped cream and garnish with chocolate shavings, curls, fresh raspberries, strawberries, or candied nuts.

Notes

  • Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor and texture.
  • Chill bowls and beaters before whipping cream to help it whip faster.
  • Be gentle when folding to keep the mousse light and airy.
  • The mousse can be made a day ahead and stored in the refrigerator.
  • Adjust sweetness by varying the amount of powdered sugar or type of chocolate (semi-sweet, bittersweet).
