Description

Football Dip is a creamy, cheesy sausage dip perfect for game day gatherings. Made with browned pork sausage, Velveeta, cream cheese, and diced tomatoes, this warm and bubbly dip pairs deliciously with tortilla chips or scoops for easy snacking during football games.

Ingredients

Scale

Sausage Mixture

  • 2 lb pork sausage

Cheese and Tomato Mixture

  • 10 oz Rotel (drained)
  • 16 oz Velveeta cheese, cubed
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened

Instructions

  1. Brown the sausage: In a large skillet, brown the pork sausage over medium-high heat, breaking it up into small crumbles as it cooks until fully cooked through and no pink remains.
  2. Drain grease: Once cooked, carefully drain off the excess grease from the skillet and return the sausage crumbles back to the pan to continue cooking without the fat.
  3. Add tomatoes: Drain the liquid from the Rotel diced tomatoes and add the drained tomatoes into the skillet with the sausage, stirring to combine evenly.
  4. Add cheeses: Add the cubed Velveeta cheese and softened cream cheese to the skillet with the sausage and tomatoes.
  5. Melt and combine: Cook over medium-high heat, stirring frequently to prevent sticking and burning, until all the cheese has melted completely, the dip is hot, bubbly, and smooth in texture.
  6. Serve: Allow the dip to cool just slightly for a few minutes so it isn’t too hot, then serve warm with tortilla chips or scoops for dipping—ideal for game day parties and casual gatherings.

Notes

  • Make sure to drain the Rotel tomatoes to avoid adding excess liquid which could make the dip runny.
  • Use Velveeta cheese for its smooth melting properties to achieve a creamy dip texture.
  • For a spicier dip, use a Rotel with jalapeños or add some chili powder.
  • If you prefer, you can substitute pork sausage with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • The dip can be kept warm in a slow cooker for parties or reheated gently on the stovetop.
