Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake:

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box: eggs, oil, water)
  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

For the Coconut-Pecan Frosting:

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

For the Chocolate Ganache:

  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Bake the Cake:

    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
    • Prepare and bake the chocolate cake according to the package instructions.
    • Let it cool for about 10 minutes.
  2. Poke the Cake:

    • Using the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes all over the warm cake.
    • Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the cake, letting it soak into the holes.
  3. Make the Coconut-Pecan Frosting:

    • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
    • Stir in evaporated milk, sugar, and egg yolks. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened (about 8-10 minutes).
    • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract, coconut, and pecans. Let cool slightly.
  4. Spread the Frosting:

    • Evenly spread the coconut-pecan frosting over the cake.
  5. Make the Chocolate Ganache:

    • In a microwave-safe bowl, heat heavy cream until hot (about 30 seconds).
    • Add chocolate chips and stir until smooth.
    • Drizzle over the cake.
  6. Chill & Serve:

    • Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to let the flavors meld.
    • Slice and enjoy!

Notes

  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • For extra chocolate flavor, use chocolate pudding instead of sweetened condensed milk.
  • Try using a homemade chocolate cake if you prefer baking from scratch.
  • Top with whipped cream or extra pecans for added texture!
