Ingredients
Scale
Cookie Dough
- 1½ cups unsalted butter, room temperature
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 tbsp milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp almond extract
- 3½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp salt
Coloring and Decoration
- Purple gel food coloring
- Black gel food coloring
- Purple sprinkles
- ½ cup black or chocolate sprinkles
Instructions
- Prepare Butter and Sugar Mixture: Beat the unsalted butter and powdered sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy. This step ensures the cookies will be tender and have a good texture.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Incorporate the eggs and milk into the butter and sugar mixture, mixing until the batter is smooth and consistent.
- Mix Dry Ingredients and Flavorings: Add the all-purpose flour, salt, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the wet mixture. Stir everything together until a cohesive dough forms.
- Divide and Color the Dough: Divide the dough into portions. Tint half the dough purple using purple gel food coloring. Further divide the remaining dough into black and white portions, coloring one part black with black gel food coloring, while leaving the other uncolored for white.
- Roll the Black Dough: Roll the black dough into a 6×12-inch rectangle shape. This will form one layer of the spiral cookie.
- Layer the White Dough: Roll the white dough to the same 6×12-inch size. Place it on top of the black dough and roll lightly so the layers adhere but don’t mix together, preserving the spiral effect.
- Roll the Purple Dough with Sprinkles: Roll the purple dough into the same rectangle size. Spread purple sprinkles evenly on top, then carefully roll this dough into a log shape to create the final spiral.
Notes
- Ensure the butter is at room temperature for easier mixing and better dough consistency.
- Gel food coloring is preferred as it provides vibrant color without adding extra liquid to the dough.
- When rolling dough rectangles, keep them uniform in size to achieve an even spiral pattern.
- Chill the rolled log before slicing to make cleaner cuts for the cookies.
- Bake on parchment paper or a silicone mat to prevent sticking and promote even baking.
- Store cookies in an airtight container to keep them fresh.
