Description

This Mushroom Swiss Burger recipe features juicy grilled beef patties topped with savory sautéed baby bella mushrooms and melted Swiss cheese, all sandwiched in toasted brioche buns. With rich flavors enhanced by Worcestershire sauce and a touch of garlic, it’s a comforting and satisfying burger perfect for a quick and delicious meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Mushrooms

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound sliced baby bella mushrooms (or sliced white button mushrooms)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Burgers

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 tablespoon steak seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns (recommended: brioche buns)

Instructions

  1. Sauteed Mushrooms: Prepare the mushrooms by heating the butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until the butter melts. Add the sliced mushrooms and Worcestershire sauce, stirring briefly to combine. Cook for 5 minutes without stirring to allow the mushrooms to sear.
  2. Simmer Mushrooms: Add the beef broth to the skillet and let it cook down for 8-10 minutes until most of the liquid evaporates, enhancing the mushroom flavor.
  3. Season Mushrooms: Add minced garlic and black pepper to the mushrooms and cook for another 3-4 minutes. Once done, remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Prepare Burger Patties: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with steak seasoning and Worcestershire sauce. Gently form the mixture into four 4-ounce patties, being careful not to overwork the meat.
  5. Preheat Grill: Heat your grill to medium-high heat to ensure even cooking and beautiful grill marks.
  6. Grill Burgers: Place the patties on the hot grill and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side. During the last 1-2 minutes, top each patty with a slice of Swiss cheese and allow it to melt.
  7. Toast Buns: While the cheese melts, toast the hamburger buns on the grill until golden brown.
  8. Rest Burgers: Remove the burgers from the grill and let them rest for 3-5 minutes, allowing juices to redistribute within the meat.
  9. Assemble Burgers: Place each burger on a toasted bun, top with the sautéed mushrooms, and add any additional optional toppings as desired before serving.

Notes

  • For a deeper mushroom flavor, use baby bella mushrooms instead of white button mushrooms.
  • Make sure not to overwork the ground beef when forming patties to keep burgers tender.
  • Resting the burgers after grilling helps retain juices and enhances flavor.
  • Optional toppings like lettuce, tomato, or caramelized onions can be added for extra texture and taste.
  • Brioche buns add a slightly sweet and soft element, but any hamburger bun will work.
