Ingredients
Scale
Dough
- Flour, 300g (2 cups)
- 1 egg
- Sugar, 45g (1/4 cup)
- Pinch of salt
- Dry yeast, 7g (1 packet)
- Warm milk, 140ml (3/5 cup)
- Softened butter, 40g (1/4 cup)
Filling
- Whipped cream, for filling
- Strawberries, chopped, for filling
Topping
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In a medium bowl, combine the sugar, dry yeast, and warm milk. Stir until dissolved and let sit for 5 minutes until tiny bubbles form, indicating the yeast is active.
- Mix Dough: Whisk in the egg. Add the flour and a pinch of salt, mixing with a spatula until the mixture just starts to come together. Then knead with your hands until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
- Add Butter and First Rise: Knead in the softened butter until fully absorbed. Form the dough into a ball, place it in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise for about an hour until it doubles in size.
- Divide and Rest: Gently punch down the dough to release air. Divide it into 8 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball. Cover and let them rest for 30 minutes.
- Shape and Second Rest: Flatten each dough ball slightly, then roll it back into a ball again. Cover and let them rest for an additional 30 minutes to relax and rise slightly.
- Fry: Heat oil in a deep pan over low heat. Fry each dough ball for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Assemble: Allow the fried dough balls to cool slightly, then slice each one horizontally like a burger bun. Generously fill with whipped cream and chopped strawberries. Place the top half back on.
- Finish and Serve: Dust the filled Strawberry Bombs with powdered sugar for a sweet finish. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- Keep the oil temperature low to ensure the dough cooks through without burning on the outside.
- Use fresh, ripe strawberries for the best flavor and sweetness.
- You can prepare the dough a day ahead and refrigerate it to let it rise slowly for better flavor development.
- Whipped cream can be homemade or store-bought, chilled before assembling.
- Serve immediately after assembling to prevent the dough from getting soggy.
