Description

This One Pan Lebanese Kafta recipe offers a flavorful and easy way to enjoy traditional Middle Eastern spiced ground beef patties cooked with fresh tomatoes in a single skillet. Perfect for a quick weeknight meal, the kafta are seasoned with aromatic spices and fresh herbs, then sautéed to golden perfection alongside tender tomatoes for a comforting and delicious dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Kafta Mixture

  • 500 grams (about 1 lb) ground beef
  • 1/2 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)

For Cooking

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 medium tomatoes, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Kafta Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, finely chopped parsley, onion, and minced garlic. Add the ground cumin, coriander, allspice, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly to ensure all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Shape the Patties: With wet hands to prevent sticking, form the beef mixture into elongated patties approximately 2 inches long and 1 inch thick, shaping them carefully to hold together during cooking.
  3. Prepare the Tomatoes: Chop the tomatoes into small pieces, setting them aside for sautéing later in the pan.
  4. Cook the Kafta Patties: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the kafta patties and cook for 4 to 5 minutes on each side until they develop a nice golden-brown crust and are cooked through.
  5. Sauté the Tomatoes: Remove the cooked kafta from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, add the chopped tomatoes and sauté for 2 to 3 minutes until they soften slightly. Season the tomatoes with salt and pepper to enhance their flavor.
  6. Combine and Serve: Return the kafta patties to the skillet with the sautéed tomatoes and warm everything together for about one minute. Serve the kafta hot, garnished with additional fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Shaping the patties with wet hands helps prevent the meat from sticking and ensures smooth, uniform kafta.
  • You can adjust the spices to your preference; adding more allspice will deepen the flavor.
  • Serve with pita bread, rice, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
  • To make this recipe gluten-free, ensure the spices and other ingredients are certified gluten-free.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated gently in a skillet or microwave.
